Fukushima. I think it’s hard not to have heard about the catastrophe at the Daiichi nuclear plant in 2011. For a long time this disaster was intangible, something I’d seen and heard through the media but something of which I had no marker for true comprehension.
As we snaked along route 6 from Iwaki northbound, the scale of the devastation became apparent. One building in particular really caught my eye. A lone Pachinko parlour, left standing as it stood on that fateful day in March 2011. Having seen Pachinko being played in glitzy, noisy and colourful parlours from Osaka to Tokyo, seeing the destruction of this once vibrant entertainment venue made the impact of this disaster for the first time, something I could begin to imagine.

Hi Jacob. I just bought a G85 and was looking for other user experiences, which led me to your site. I love your photos and stories! I’m fascinated by street and travel photojournalism and love the deeper, richness your images seem to have compared to other shooters. Have you actually committed to Panasonic exclusively yet? My full frame DSLR is collecting dust because I prefer the m43 kits and can do almost everything I need to with them now, but I’m still hesitant to take the plunge and sell my DSLR. Your Natural Light Tips article is great–thanks!
