As many of you know I am currently in the middle of working on my short documentary ‘Forgotten Borders’. The documentary will hopefully increase awareness of the problems faced by ethnic people, refugees and migrant workers living in and around the Thai border towns of Sangkhlaburi and Mae Sot.
My awareness of this issue was massively increased last July when I spent 5 weeks working in Sangkhlaburi, helping to construct a school building for children living along the border who were denied access to education due to the lack of valid identity papers. During a short period whilst I was at the school two film makers shot a short documentary piece on a similar topic as my upcoming documentary.
The style of documentary and story are different but the message is the same. I got sent a link to the documentary only yesterday and I was immediately impressed. I love the way that it is portrayed from the students eyes as it gives it a much more intimate feel. Seeing this has also given me the kick-up the bum to finish the last week of filming in Mae Sot. Hope you enjoy, I certainly did!
